Makeup Artist by trade, artist by nature?‍♀️

It all started when I won a lil contest at a community school when I was about 7! I would draw every once in a while as a kid and my parents submitted a few drawings to this contest.

After winning it, I believe a family friend who was an artist herself told them about a lady who owned a studio in the area. You would pay to use the studio space, paints, pastels, etc, to create art! The owner as well was an artist herself so she would let you have the freedom to start drawing and you can come to her for help, she would teach you different techniques. Little 7 year old me was the only child in the studio at the beginning, was surrounded by adults just creating art! I appreciate the experience that I received going there for two hours on weekends till about the age of 12 and a lil bit during my teens until the studio closed. I didn’t go to an art school but that experience I am really truly grateful for right now.

After high school I wasn’t heading in the direction of becoming an artist career wise, was trying different things but I was unhappy. As life goes, you have your ups and downs, and try different things but I really did start feeling that my skills for drawing and painting were being put to waste. Started to miss it and how it made me feel when I completed a sketch, drawing, or painting. The process of it is therapeutic too.

So after completing event management, I went to a well known and respected makeup school in Toronto, CMU college. Where I learned about all different aspects of makeup from beauty to special effects. Ever since then it was something I’ve stuck with because it doesn’t necessarily feel like work to me and I’m able to put my skills to use.

On the side, I continue to sketch and draw, and want to come back to painting again. So here’s why I started my Etsy account @claudiasartstop ☺️ where I’ll be posting what I create. Currently I have oil on canvas paintings listed from when I was a kid and was painting at the studio. I want to see where this goes!
